Summer Swim Lessons

Social Distancing and masks are still required for swim lessons held at Puyallup HS Pool. Changes to the swimming lesson program include smaller class sizes, swim instructors wearing face shields with drapes and optional family style swim lessons with swim instructors teaching out of the water.

*Please Note* 
1. Entrance cannot be given more than 5 minutes before your scheduled time in order to give swim participants time to exit the locker rooms. (It is suggested that participants wear their swimsuit under their clothes to expedite arrival to class.)
2. Swim lesson participants are encouraged to shower before entering the swimming pool.

3. There is limited space in the locker room for changing and showering after swim lessons. It is encouraged to bring an extra towel, bathrobe, sweats etc. for your swim lesson participant(s) to wear over their swimsuits after swim lessons and to leave from the pool deck to change/shower at home. 
4. Lockers are not available. Swim participants must take their items out of the locker room with them.

5. Masks must be worn at all times except when showering or when in the pool.
6. Progress reports will be distributed at the end of each session. Parents may also track their participants progress using the downloaded the Swim American Red Cross app by either texting SWIM to 90999 or searching for it in your phone app store. Swim Lesson Achievement Booklet are also available from the front lobby of the pool, or downloading it from the pool website.
7.Swimming lesson class sizes will be reduced to allow for social distancing requirements of the school district.
8. Parents/Spectators are asked to sit in the balcony/seating area during swimming lessons.
9. Swim lesson sessions are half the amount of time of pre-Covid swim lessons sessions. It may take swim participants a couple sessions to master a skill.


Weekday Swim Lesson Sessions:
Weekday swim lesson sessions consist of swim lessons twice a week for two weeks for $36.00.
Group Swim Lessons will be held on Tuesday & Thursdays at 4:15pm, 5:00pm, 5:45pm & 6:30pm.
Family Swim Lessons will be held on Wednesday & Fridays at 4:15pm, 5:00pm & 5:45pm.

Session #1   June 22 - July 1   (Online Registration begins Saturday, June 12, at 12:00 am)

Session #2   July 6 - July 15   (Online Registration begins Saturday, July 3, at 12:00 am)
Session #3   July 27 - August 5   (Online Registration begins Saturday, July 24, at 12:00 am)
Session #4   August 10 - August 19th   (Online Registration begins Saturday, August 7, at 12:00 am)

Saturday Swim Lesson Sessions:
Saturday swim lesson sessions consist of swim lessons once a week for four weeks for $36.00.
Family swim lessons will be held in the morning at 10:00am, 10:45am & 11:30am.
Group swim lesson swill be held in the late afternoon at 2:45pm, 3:30pm, 4:00pm & 5:30pm.

Session #1   June 26 - July 17   (Online Registration begins Saturday, June 12, at 12:00 am)
Session #2   July 31 - August 15   (Online Registration begins Saturday, July 24, at 12:00 am)


Family Swim Lessons
Family Swim Lessons are for beginner level participants who bring their own adult helper in the water with them to assist them as they practice water skills. Swim instructors will be instructing out of the water on the pool deck wearing face coverings. 

These levels include American Red Cross Parent & Child Classes, Pre-school (ages 4 & 5) Classes, and Age Group (ages 6 & older) Level 1 & Level 2.

Please note any new PHS Pool Level 3 participants will need to take a swim test before swimming lessons begin to verify they can meet the minimum swim requirement of:

Swimming on their front with face in the water for 5 body lengths, then roll onto their back to float for 15 seconds, then roll back to their front swimming another 5 body lengths in the lap pool while not touching the bottom, the side, or stopping.
Jump in the deep end of the pool and tread water for 15 seconds.
Swim tests are free and can be done during any lap swim time. Please call to make a reservation.

Group Swim Lessons
Group swim lessons will have an instructor in the water wearing a face shield with drape. Beginner level swim instructors will instruct from the water and assist the swim participants with practicing their water skills. 

Pre-school (ages 4 & 5) Classes, and Age Group (ages 6 & older) Level 1-Level 6

Private Swim Lessons
Private swim lessons are $27.50 per individual swim lesson. They must be scheduled in advance by calling the pool at
1-253-840-8811 x 0. 

Instructors will teach in the water wearing a face shield with drape and help the swim participant practice their water skills unless requested otherwise. The American Red Cross Learn to Swim Program will be used unless requested otherwise. Times and days currently available are:

Tuesday 3:30pm
Thursday 3:30pm
Saturday 9:15am

Stroke Academy

 Stroke Academy is a pre-swim team program for those in junior/senior high school with no prior swim team experience. The focus will be on stroke refinement, swim sets/drills, and distance. Participants will practice an hour three days a week on Monday, Wednesday & Friday for 7 weeks. The fee is $85.00.

Beginning Water Polo
Beginning Water Polo is a pre-water polo team program for those in junior/senior high school with no prior water polo team experience. The focus will be on introducing ball handling, treading water, traveling, shooting, etc. Participants will practice an hour two days a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays for 7 weeks. The fee is $59.50.
